Buyer's Guide

To select a steriliser you need to ask yourself a few questions about the needs of your practice.

What am I sterilising?Dental surgery using sterliser

If you are sterilising hollow load type A objects then you will need one of the B series Futura or Classic sterilisers. If you are not, then you should consider the S series Classic sterilisers.

Hollow load type A objects are defined in Australian Standard 4815:2006 and you can view our fact sheet here. Some examples of hollow load type A objects are dental handpieces, triple syringes and reusable aspirator tips.

The S Classic series are suitable for hollow load type B objects and objects that are not hollow. Exacta and S Classic sterilisers are suitable for most medical centres, podiatrists and veterinarians. For more information on hollow load type B objects and non-hollow objects you can view our fact sheet here.

What size steriliser do I need?

With the Futura & Classic range there is a choice of a 17 litre or 22 litre size steriliser. The premium Futura 17 litre model features a Heavy duty Vacuum pump, while the 22 litre version features a Premium heavy duty vacuum pump designed for extra speed & workload. The Classic
features a standard Vacuum pump so is a little slower in cycle time. Great for practices that aren’t so busy.

How often will I use the steriliser?

The Futura is a premium steriliser designed for performing back-to-back cycles in a busy dental practice for example. It will allow you to process more instruments in a working day because of the faster cycle times.

Will my sterilisation needs change in the future?

Don’t forget that you are purchasing a premium European manufactured state-of-the-art bench-top steriliser that will last you 7 to 10 years or longer. You may only need the steriliser to perform two or three cycles per day at the present, but what if your practice expands? Will you be putting on a new dentist or doctor or opening more rooms in the future? Will you still be only doing two or three cycles per day in 5 years time? By purchasing the heavy-duty Futura series sterilisers you will be “future proofing” yourself as your heavy-duty Mocom is one of the fastest and most reliable sterilisers available in Australia.

Factors to consider when buying a steriliser:

  • Remember your practice might grow and need a steriliser that will be able to run more cycles or larger loads than you currently require. You don’t want to buy a steriliser that you will outgrow in a couple of years.
  • Mocom Sterilisers offer a wide range of cycle choices enabling you to select the best suited option for your sterilisation load. This could save not only energy but save time; especially in a busy practice.
  • Mocom sterilisers come equipped with a patented instant steam generator which gives high quality saturated steam. The hydraulic circuit, in combination with the vacuum pump, allows extremely short fast cycles and remarkable water saving.
  • The sterilisation chamber is made entirely of electro-polished stainless steel. This provides high quality and longer durability. In the chamber the rotating stainless steel frame can house up to 5 trays of 3 cassettes.
  • You’ll need to keep in mind the importance of traceability when it comes to sterilisation. The futura makes this easy for you with personal ID codes allowing for on screen parametric release of loads & identification of the user. An optional Bar Code printer also gives you further safety & security by allowing you to print out sticky labels with a bar code that enables you to scan cycle data to patient records.
